The Stinger Rig HD (Heavy Duty) is an easy-to-use, two-hook trap rig for trophy Rockfish, big Halibut and Lingcod fishing from boat, kayak or shore – it’s ideal for use with large live baits such as mackerel, rockfish, smelt, sand dabs and cut baits such as whole squid or filets.
 
The rig consists of a size ultra strong 4/0 J hook, a size 1/0 offshore treble hook, three-way swivel and sinker clip, with the hook section tied on 50-pound fluorocarbon leader material and the sinker section of the rig tied with 40-pound mono. All components are designed for use in saltwater and the bait is designed to sit just above the bottom when attached to a typical sportfishing combo.
 
Thread the optional squid hoochie attractor onto the main line if trolling (add a small stop knot above the hoochie to prevent it from riding up the line), clip on a sinker, attach bait and drop / cast.
 
More instructions and tips:
 
1) If trolling or drifting, thread squid hoochie attractor onto the main line head first so it sits over the swivel and attach rig to main line (recommended: 10-30ft, 50-80lb mono or fluorocarbon top shot / abrasion leader) via free ring of three-way swivel using palomar or uni knot, and attach a suitable size (2-24oz) ringed torpedo sinker onto sinker clip
 
2) Attach live bait with top hook (the j hook) through nose of bait and treble hook lightly hooked in rear third of body. Large cut baits such as whole mackerel filets should be hooked twice through with the j hook at one end, and the treble secured in the bottom quarter of the bait for short biters
 
3) Slowly drop to bottom to prevent twisting and tangles. a slow drift with the rig kept close to the bottom is ideal
